Free Instructions On How To Make Your Own Wind Turbine

by Dan Avella

Today the cost of energy is greater than it has ever been. Nobody likes to see their electricity bill sitting in the mailbox. Many homeowners now search for ways to reduce their annual energy costs. Some people do this by cutting back on the amount of electricity that they use, whereas others use alternative sources to create a proportion of their requirements. One of the best and most reliable forms of alternative energy is wind power. It is not so complicated to make your own wind turbine.

If you decide to install a wind turbine then you will see great financial savings in your energy costs as well as helping to protect the environment. Many people now see wind turbines as a more productive means of alternative energy creation when compared to solar cells and panels. This is because wind turbines can produce electricity 24 hours a day. They do not even need a strong wind. Also, if you have a property that is in a remote location where it is not possible to connect to the national grid, then they are ideal. You can easily learn how to make your own wind turbine and harness household wind power to generate your own electricity.

To make your own turbine you first of all need to acquire the correct materials. These can be purchased from a local hardware store or sourced through the internet. If you have experience at DIY then it will not be a difficult project to complete. With a little skill and a few readily available materials, you can make your own wind turbine and start saving money on your electric bill before you know it.

The necessary parts will include a motor, a mounting, a tower, and blades. Depending upon your energy requirements a turbine can vary in size. Most people will use a 30 volt motor. If you understand aerodynamics you can make the blades from an old PVC pipe otherwise you will have to buy specialised blades. The tower can often be built from a strong piece of metal pipe that needs to be securely fastened.

Other equipment would include an array of batteries to store the power that is generated and a controller that regulates the flow of energy to the batteries. Since it is so simple and relatively inexpensive, ore and more homeowners are learning how to make their own wind turbine. It will help you to save money, reduce pollution and gain independence from the electric grid.

How Solar Power Works

by Derek Brookes

Alternative energy, like solar power, is high on the agenda at the moment. This means people are starting to think about how does solar power work?

solarpanels

Some of the queries people have are whether or not this is something they can include in their own lives and if it will effectively work to meet their demands. Although the sun has been put to work for us for many centuries, it is only recently that we have begun to fully understand and use its power. Therefore the answer is yes.

But what are the ways we can really use solar power? Solar panels are generally used to convert light into electricity. Many people have used this technology before and never realized it with solar powered calculators. In what way does this solar power really work?

The sun light is converted into energy by the solar panels which initially catch the light. One square meter of panels will harness enough power to run a hundred watt light bulb. It doesn’t seem like a lot to start with, but think about how many meters of free, unused spaced you have on your roof right now. Without taking up any usable space, solar panels allow you to harness the free power from the sun.

Another useful system are solar water heaters. This type of solar power works by using the sun to heat water. This is achieved by pumping water through pipes that are painted a dark color so as the pipes are heated by the sun, the water inside also warms as well. 90% of a home’s hot water is what some companies claim their water heaters can supply.

The only drawback is that the pipes have to be drained in the winter to keep them from freezing, but some companies have built in systems that make this easier to do.

A third kind of solar power are solar furnaces. A solar furnace is a group of mirrors that focus the sun’s rays. Does this type of solar power work effectively?

Focusing the sun’s rays enables you to achieve extremely hot temperatures. Scientists have used this kind of heating to achieve temperatures in excess of 5400 degrees Fahrenheit. If your not in a hurry this can of heating can be fantastic as their is not cost involved. But you have to remember is does take quite a while to heat thing this way.
